That’s what 2024 Chutney Queen Rawytee Ramroop will be championing on International Women’s Day today, the theme of which is “Invest in women: accelerate progress.”
Ramroop, who won that title at the Chutney Soca Monarch final at Skinner Park, San Fernando on Carnival Saturday (February 10), says that like men, all women should be afforded a fair chance to prove themselves in all endeavours.
“Today is a reminder for me that we are not meant to be put down in any way or the other. We work just as hard as men, and we are outstanding in our own way. So, we should always have the same equal opportunity as the men, because we work just as hard,” a passionate Ramroop told the Express via a WhatsApp call yesterday.
Ramroop currently stands at the pinnacle of chutney soca music in T&T. The Cumuto-born singer’s 2023 hit “Pari Karo” made her a household name in the genre, while her Chutney Queen title-winner “Whining To The Ground” finished third overall at the CSM final, further endearing her to fans. Read More
