Antigua Carnival competitions get major overhaul


The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission has announced changes to the island's beloved Carnival celebrations, aiming to reinvigorate the competitive spirit of its musical contests.


Festivals Chairperson Elizabeth Makhoul stated that these changes are being implemented "to create that competitiveness once again" in the Soca and Calypso competitions.


Director of Culture Khan Cordice detailed the new format for the Party Monarch competition, which will now feature a one-song format. "So, people are allowed to enter the competition with a groovy song or a jumpy song by nature," Cordice explained.
