Jalon ‘Boyzie’ Olive has defeated Crayave in the Groovy Monarch competition to be crowned the 2023 Groovy Monarch, following his captivating and dynamic performance of his trending soca song, “Middle Finger”.
Boyzie, scored 263 points to dethrone the one-time defending Monarch, Rashid ‘Crayave,’ Julien, who tied with Ronnie ‘Runi J’ Joseph in position number six (6) with 239 points.
This is the sixth national title to be captured by Boyzie, who is a 5-times Power Soca Monarch.
“I feel great…big up to all the fans, they come out 100%, and support me in the groove. It’s my first Groovy so big up, big up BadSquad, the whole team, you don’t know,” Boyzie told reporters in an interview after being crowned by the 2023 National Queen Amorai Francis early Saturday morning.
The 2023 Groovy Monarch explained that the concept of his winning selection, which was well received by the crowd, is based on “a true life story,” however, did not go into the details.
Making his debut on the stage in the Groovy Monarch final, was the second place winner Matthew Thomas, who goes by the stage name ‘Mr. Gold’N’ who amassed 260 points with his selection, “In Me Head.”
“I feel accomplished…I feel good,” said Mr. Gold’N, whose hard work has certainly paid off for him this year.
The groove artist, who has been singing for eight (8) years had captured six (6) titles on the sister isle of Carriacou.
