Celebrating Legacy and World Steel Pan Day on August 26th
The Carlos Lezama Archives and Caribbean Cultural Center (CLACC-C) will host its annual Children’s Festival and Youth Pan Fest, showcasing youth steel pan ensembles. The family festival, provides giveaways, free school supplies and health screenings to attendees.

In a harmonious tribute to the rich cultural heritage of steel pan music, Brooklyn, NY, is gearing up to host its annual Children's Festival & Youth Pan Fest on August 26th, 15 days after the United Nations' declaration of August 11th as World Steel Pan Day. This vibrant and captivating event promises to showcase the rhythms, melodies, and history of this iconic musical tradition from Trinidad & Tobago.
The Youth Pan Festival will occur in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, outside the landmark home of Carlos Lezama, pioneer of Brooklyn's legendary West-Indian Day Carnival. Organized by the Carlos Lezama Archives & Caribbean Cultural Center (CLACC-C), this family-friendly festival is set to include steelpan enthusiasts, culture buffs, and music lovers of all ages.
"We are thrilled to celebrate our annual Youth Pan Fest, especially given the recent and groundbreaking recognition of World Steel Pan Day by the United Nations. This festival is a testament to the enduring legacy of steelpan music and its ability to transcend boundaries and touch the hearts of people from all walks of life," said Yolanda Lezama-Clark, spokesperson for the event.
CLACC-C's Youth Pan Fest will feature a diverse lineup of performances from New York City's youth ensembles, including Metro Steel, Eruption, P.E.S.O, Harmony Music Makers, Genesis Youth Pan Groove, A.F Pulse, Black Love Pantonics and numerous SteelPan Soloist performances. Attendees can look forward to immersing themselves in this extraordinary instrument's rhythmic beats and soul-stirring sounds.
In addition, to live performances by renowned youth steel pan ensembles, the festival will offer a range of culinary delights, artisanal crafts, family-friendly activities, and free back-to-school supplies. Local vendors will provide a tasty array of Caribbean-inspired dishes and drinks, creating an authentic sensory experience that complements the music.
