Ghetto Flex... a one-of-a-kind talent‌


That’s how easy a jubilant Ghetto Flex (Hilton Dalzell Jr) told the Express in August of 2022 it would be to find the perfect groove with his original Second Imij bandmates some 25 years after they last played music together.


Ghetto Flex lived up to that hype at the said reunion, on January 28, 2023, at the Anchorage nightclub, Chaguaramas. Together with fellow frontliners Russell Cadogan and Tricia Lee Kelshall they turned back the hands of the clock to activate an aging, willing crowd with their timeless hits “Jump”, “Na Na” and “Poison”.


“Now this is a reunion after 30 years. Ah showing meh age boy, whey! Yeh I is 25, US!” Ghetto Flex joked, tickling the audience on that night during his performance of his soca classic “Golo”.


“Yuh know, ah still seeing people singing de wrong ting. I’m grateful for the effort but after 30 years we must know de correct words ent? Is Golo. The writer of the song tell meh in Hindi it means plenty,” he revealed.


Seventeen months later the memory of that night weighs heavy on the heart of Second Imij musical director Joey Ng Wai. Read More
