Ravi B (Ravi Bissambhar) says securing the first Caribbean Music Awards (CMA) honour for chutney soca is a landmark moment for the genre. Ravi made history on August 29, during the second edition of the awards show at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York.
The Sangre Grande-born singer described the award as a historic victory for chutney music on the global stage.
“This award is incredibly special to me. It’s not just a personal achievement, but a win for the entire genre, which has its roots in the culture and stories of Indo-Caribbean people,” Ravi told the Express during a WhatsApp exchange yesterday.
