Draped in purple with a wreath atop, the casket bearing the remains of co-founder of the world-renowned Third World band, Kingsley Michael ‘Ibo’ Cooper, today entered the University of the West Indies chapel in Kingston, for the performance of final rites.
Cooper, a lecturer at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts at the time of his passing, died on October 12, at age 71.
The service was conducted by members of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, with senior minister at the Webster Memorial Church, Rev Astor Carlyle as the main celebrant.
With the majority of those assembled to pay their respect dressed in white, as requested by the family, Cooper was remembered in the many tributes as the reggae ambassador who dedicated the majority of his life to the development of Jamaica’s culture through his gift of music. Read More
